Nexus 7 How to update CM10.1 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Sentinel ROM

A new custom ROM titled Sentinel ROM v4.00 based Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is present for the Google Nexus 7. This ROM has been designed to boost the CyanogenMod 10.1 (CM 10.1) experience with quicker gaming, web browsing performance and enhanced battery life. Keep in mind that it is not an official release by Google. The Sentinel ROM would need a custom recovery like ClockworkMod to install the ROM zip file on your Nexus 7 device.

The tip written below is only for Nexus 7 Android phone. It will not work on any other Nexus device. Besides, we are not responsible for any type of damage to your device according to below mentioned step-by-step instructions.

Take care to Pre-requisite things

  • Take a full backup of data, apps and settings to memory card before starting the process of Sentinel ROM to Nexus 7 device.
  • Make sure that the battery of Nexus 7 device is completely charge
  • Turn on USB debugging mode on your Nexus 7 device with tapping to Settings — Developer options — Enable USB debugging.
  • Confirm that you have already installed ClockworkMod Recovery app to your Nexus 7 device.
  • Download and install Nexus 7 USB driver to your computer.

How to Install CM10.1 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Sentinel ROM on Nexus 7:

Step-By-Step Instructions:

Step 1 

Firstly, you have to download both required zip files to your computer. Don’t extract it.

Download CM10.1 Android 4.2.2 Sentinel ROM

Next, link Nexus 7 device to your computer with USB cable. Then explore the mass storage of device.

Step 3

Now copy both downloaded zip files (see in step-1) and paste it to your memory card contained root folder.

Step 4

Make Power off your Nexus 7 device. Now boot it into the Bootloader Mode. For this reason, power on the device when you press and hold the Volume Up + Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time.

Step 5

Now you have to look at on-screen instructions carefully. Select BOOTLOADER menu and then boot to RECOVERY mode.

Step 6

Inside ClockworkMod recovery mode screen, you need to delete all data first. Then scroll down to “flash zip from SD card” menu and press the Power button to select it.

Press the Power button another time and select “choose zip from sdcard” menu.

Step 7

Now search for CM10.1 Sentinel ROM zip file from memory card’ root folder (see in step-3) by volume up and down buttons. Then select it by pressing the Power button. At this time you will receive a pop-up box for confirming the install process on the next screen. Here, select the Yes option to verify. After performing above every step successfully, installation process will launch, and it will end about 25-30 minutes.

NOTE- Repeat all above step for selecting the Google Apps zip file also.

Step 8

Once the process of Sentinel ROM installation finished, go to “+++++Go Back” menu and reboot your Nexus 7 device by selecting “reboot system now” menu from the recovery menu screen. The Nexus 7 device will boot now, and it will load to home screen about 5 Minutes. So, keep patience.

Now your Nexus 7 device have installed CM10.1 Sentinel ROM based Android 4.2.2 version.
