How to create 404 page in thesis 2.0 Step by Step

Setting up a 404 page in thesis 2.0 – It is very easy to create a 404 page in Thesis 2.0. The content of the whole website gets hidden by the default 404 in Thesis. The Labnol like 404 page is not supported in this theme, so a Thesis 404 page is to be used. There is a presence of special templates for 404 pages in the Thesis. When encountering a 404 page, do the following:

  • Click the website logo or the name to visit the Home Page.
  • In the header section there is the presence of search box. Type your queries there to search.
  • Browse the archive links.
  • Email the problem to the site administrator or any email given in the web page.

Creating a 404 page is easy. Here is how it is done:

Step 1: Add a new page by visiting the Pages.

Step 2: A name should be assigned to the page like any meaningful one or a 404 page. Now the next step is to fill the page with the information which you feel might be important. A 404 page on this blog can be viewed by clicking the link: http://howto-connect.com/404

Step 3: Now by visiting the Theses section, make a click over the Site which shows drop down links also including a 404 page. By selecting the 404 page which has been created, save it by clicking the Save button which appears in the top-right corner.

Step 4: The next is the editing of the 404 template. The editing option appears on the bottom left when you open the 404 page.

Step 5: The previous step will open the 404 template. Now Shift+Drag  column 2 to template sidebar to drop on the top of it.  The ads, headers or the footers can be added and removed by the same way.

Thus, the basic creation and the editing of the 404 page is over. Now, follow the following steps to add customizations to the web page such as the categories and the archives.

Step 6: This step involves the adding of the widget to the template. This will add a widget look in the right sidebar. Click on the “Type of the box to add”, select the widget you want to add and finally click on “Add box”.

Step 7: After the creation of the widget, now comes the step of adding it to the 404 template which can be done by dragging the box while clicking the Shift button and drop it on WP Loop. Go further by saving the template.

Step 8: In the Appearance section, go to widgets to check the widget which has been created.

Step 9: Continue by dragging the Tag Cloud Widget and select the categories following a taxonomy.

Step 10: To show the Archives, drag the Archives Widget in the 404 widget.
