Symptom Workaround
You might notice that “Legacy edition of Microsoft Edge” is removed but this is not replaced with the chromium version of same browser if your Windows installations are prepared from custom ISO or offline media. The problem is the outcome absence of SSU dated 29/03/2021 or later before creating custom ISO images or offline media through slipstreaming this update.

Iimportant: If you haven’t changed any Windows update settings and directly installed Windows Update to you won’t be affected. For example, Windows Update for Business. Keep in mind to receive the SSU first before installing the latest cumulative update aka LCU without any additional steps.

In order to bypass this problem, first of all, slipstream the Servicing Stack Update 29/03/2021 or later into the ISO image or custom offline media prior to slipstreaming the CU. For this, when working on combined LCU and SSU now used for Windows 10 v20H2 and Windows 10 v2004, unpack the SSU from the combined package. Move forward with the steps to extract the SSU –

  1. Unpack the cab from the msu through the cmd command line (Taking KB5000842 as an example): expand Windows10.0-KB5022282-x64.msu /f:Windows10.0-KB5022282-x64.cab <destination path>
  2. Then extract the Servicing Stack Update from the previously unpacked cab using the cmd command: expand Windows10.0-KB5022282-x64.cab /f:* <destination path>
  3. Now SSU cab will be available to you, in this example named SSU-19042.2486.cab. You are free to Slipstream this file into the offline image first, then the cumulative update.

Supposedly, if you have already faced this problem you can mitigate it by installing the new Microsoft Edge straight from its official website.
