Galaxy S I9000 How to update Android 4.2.2 Vanilla RootBox ROM

The latest custom ROM (Vanilla RootBox v3.8) is obtainable for Samsung Galaxy S I9000 model which offers Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean version. Vanilla RootBox custom ROM proposes the several types of interesting features like advance security, more language and customization support.

Caution 

This custom ROM has been developed only for Galaxy S I9000 model. Don’t attempt it on any other Galaxy models. In addition, we or the developers of RootBox are not answerable for any issues like dead or damage due to the tips provided in this page.  So, start the install process with RootBox V.3.8 custom ROM at personal risk.

Pre Requisites things

  • Get Backup of all data of Galaxy S I9000 model to SD card firstly, because the whole thing will be lost during custom ROM update process.
  • Confirm that your Galaxy S I9000 device should have been fully charged.
  • You have installed Galaxy USB driver on your computer.

Download USB Drivers

  • Enable USB debugging mode in your Galaxy S I9000 device.
  • Make sure that your device has been rooted already and install CWM recovery app.

    1. At first download both zip files to your computer.

Step-1

Connect your Galaxy S I9000 device to computer through USB cable.

Step-2

Copy downloaded both zip files (see in step 1) to the root folder of SD card in your I9000 device.

Step-3

Next, remove the USB Cable and power off your Galaxy S I9000 device.

Step-4

Now, go into CWM recovery mode by pushing and holding the volume up, Power and Home buttons at once until the Samsung logo appears on the screen. Leave all three buttons for 2 seconds and hold them another time. Then you will find CWM recovery screen in few seconds. In recovery mode screen, volume keys are used to surf between options while Power key to choose any option.

Step-5

To do the process of Nandroid backup method, select Backup and Restore menu using power button.  In the next screen, select Backup menu once more. Now return to CWM recovery mode screen after backup finishes.

Step-6

Now, you have to do data wiping task. To do so, select wipe data/factory reset menu and select Yes on next screen to authenticate your action.  In few minutes, the data of your Galaxy I9000 device will be deleted. Now return to CWM recovery main menu screen and select wipe cache partition menu. Next, select Wipe Dalvik Cache under advance option to do Dalvik cache wiping process.

Step-7

In this step, select install zip from sdcard option then select choose zip from sdcard. Now find the Vanilla RootBox v3.8 ROM ZIP file from SD card (see step 2) and select it by pushing Power button. A message about confirmation will prompt on the next screen and select yes – Install _____.zip. Now the process of RootBox Custom ROM installation will start.

Remakes

After finishing the ROM installation procedure, perform again the step 7 method to select only the gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip file from SD card.

Once both zip files are selected and installation process is finished, return to the main recovery mode screen and select reboot system now to restart the Galaxy S I9000 device. It will boot around 5 minutes. Now your Galaxy I9000 device is ready to work with just updated Vanilla RootBox v3.8 custom ROM with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware.
