Bug fixes and Improvements

Start menu

  • The rich thumbnail previews (tooltips) for cloud files listed under “Recommended” on the Start menu, as well as the option to right-click and share these files, which were introduced in Build 23511, might experience a temporary absence for certain Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel.

Fixes

Taskbar

  • Dev Channel rollout resolved a problem where dragging app icons on the taskbar could occasionally result in an explorer.exe crash.

Search on the Taskbar

  • Solved a situation where occasionally the tooltip when hovering over the search box did not correspond with the current search highlight.

Dev Drive

  • Resolved a problem where it was impossible to paste a folder path for mounting into the dialog when creating a new Dev Drive.

Please be aware that certain fixes mentioned in Insider Preview builds from the Dev Channel may be incorporated into the servicing updates for the official release of Windows 11.

Known issues

File Explorer – New –

  • Desktop icons may appear as generic white pages instead of their intended icons.
  • A problem arises where the progress wheel icon remains stuck in the File Explorer tab, even after the folder has completed loading.
  • If you navigate away from a folder and return, any changes made to the folder’s sort order will not be retained.

Start menu

  • Certain apps listed under “All apps” on the Start menu, such as Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) installed via Microsoft Edge, may be erroneously identified as system components.

Input

  • The Unicode Emoji 15 support, introduced in Build 23475, and the updated color font format with COLRv1 support, introduced in Build 23506, are currently not visible after updating to Build 23531 due to a bug. This issue will be addressed in an upcoming flight release.
  • A severe tabtip.exe crash is occurring, affecting some Insiders’ typing ability. This is a new improvement.
