HDFC bank, in its latest move to enhance its connectivity and accessibility has introduced a new ANDROID BANKING APP in Hindi. The banking giant earlier introduced a banking app in English, which already has a user count of 12 Lakhs. The bank plans to expand that to 16 Lakhs with this new introduction. With a total of 565 million Hindi speakers and about 56% Android smartphones occupying the share of total 5.5 million smartphones sold, that appears an intelligent move.

As far as the actual usage of the app is concerned, the app performed well when tested on a Galaxy Nexus. You get to access your mobile banking options as bank account and credit card. The corresponding operations in the respective options work well. The bill payments are also executed via this app. The other options included are fund transfer, credit card, Demat and debit card. The native Android menu option, though, is of no use.
The app has a separate back navigation and log-out button in itself. Even if you exit the app without logging out, the app operates a self log out which requires users to log into the app each time they enter the app. This feature is definite for security purposes. The only problem that users might face while using this app is the usage of some difficult Hindi terms for banking operations that one might find hard to understand. Else, this app works just fine.
