Changes being rolled out for everyone

Widgets Board Improvements

KB5036985 LCU kicks off a new navigation bar on the left letting you switch between a dedicated widgets dashboard and other combined dashboards like Discover. Consequently, developers can send notifications to the taskbar button with their custom dashboards for the Widgets board after this change. They can see the documentation on Widgets dashboards changes and their implementations.

To handle notifications from multiple dashboards, Widgets also furnishes more granular control over what content displays on the Widgets button on the taskbar. Navigate to Widgets Settings => Notifications and enable or disable taskbar notifications from individual dashboards.

Changes and Improvements gradually being rolled out to everyone in the Beta Channel

Widgets

  • The experts are making some modifications to the Widgets button on the taskbar to make the icons on the taskbar clearer. The update is rolling out a larger set of animated icons too.

Known issues

General

  • The experts in the team are investigating an issue where IIS and WCF may not work after installing this update.
  • They’re working on a fix for the issue causing Settings to crash when copying text in certain cases. You can use the extract text option in the Snipping Tool until the issue is resolved if you are impacted. This is a new improvement.

Copilot in Windows

Beta Channel insiders who have the updated Copilot to act the tool like a normal application window may come across the following known issues:

  • On All the three channels, Beta, Dev, and Canary, Copilot is auto-launching unexpectedly after reboot of the PC. Hopefully, a fix for this issue unrelated to the experience was tried out with Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels in early February. But it was stopped rolling out in March.
  • In KB5036985, Voice access does not work reliably with the updated Copilot which introduces the ability for Copilot to act like a normal application.
  • Windows Ink will no longer work with the updated Copilot.

Widgets

  • Experts in the team are working on a fix for an issue causing Widgets to crash for some Insiders when interacting with the Widgets board.

Beta Channel insiders who have installed build-22635-3420 may encounter the following known issues:

  • Swipe invocation function may not work for Widgets if the taskbar is center-aligned rather than left-aligned.
  • Removing pinned Widgets from the taskbar may not work if taskbar is center-aligned rather than left-aligned.
  • The Widgets board is located in the wrong position when Copilot is in side-by-side mode.
  • Enabling/disabling Widgets may refresh the taskbar.
