Pre-requisite things before starting the update process
- Download and Install Asus Nexus 7 USB driver to your computer.
- Please confirm that you have done backup process of all essential Nexus tablet data to a memory card. It is important because you can lose everything during custom ROM update. Although Nexus 7 users can also backup through custom recovery method (CWM, TWRP) which creates an entire image of your existing device setup.
- Turn on USB debugging mode on your Nexus 7 tablet.
- Make sure that the battery of Nexus 7 tablet should have fully charged.
Step-by-step update tips to How to install XenonHD Custom ROM on the Nexus 7 tablet
You have to download both zip files to your computer.
Download Android 4.2.2 XenonHD Custom ROM
Next, connect your Nexus 7 tablet to the computer via the USB cable.
Now copy the Android 4.2.2 ROM zip and Google Apps zip files (find it in step 1) to your memory card. Then paste it to root folder of memory card.
Power off your Nexus 7 tablet and go into Bootloader mode. To do so, push and hold the volume up, volume down and power buttons at the same time.
Look to on-screen instructions and select BOOTLOADER and then choose RECOVERY.
Inside CWM recovery page, at first you have to do the process of data clean from tablet. Then scroll down to flash zip from SD card option and push the Power button to select it.
