Dev Channel of Windows 11 Insider (22H2) has welcomed a new update containing some changes and bug fixes in the ni_prerelease branch. The release is Windows 11 Build 23595.1000 which changes the location of Copilot icon, improves process grouping in the Task Manager, and more. The update has brought bug fixes for custom wallpapers and blank recommended section on Start menu.

Full name of the build is “Windows 11 Insider Preview 23595.1000 (ni_prerelease)”. Let’s have a look at what is new in this update:

Improvements and changes

Copilot in Windows

  • This build has changed the location of Copilot icon to the right side of the system tray on the taskbar. Now onwards, “show the desktop” is not enabled by default but you will have to manually turn on from Settings => Personalization => Taskbar. To get at this, right-clicking on Taskbar is sufficient.
  • Furthermore, the build has started delivering the change previously documented with Build 23570 that initiated support for Copilot in Windows to be used across multiple monitors. As usual, you can click the Copilot button located on the taskbar on which monitor you want to show. Apart from this, just press WIN+C to reveal Copilot on the last monitor that it was appearing on. Press “WIN+T” in the case of keyboard to set the keyboard focus on the taskbar and click on the Copilot taskbar button to display Copilot on any monitor.

Windows Share

  • Suppose you’re signed in with a Microsoft Entra ID having the ability to share Microsoft Teams (work or school) contacts, you can also now onwards share straight to specific Microsoft Teams Channels and group chats directly within the Windows share window.

Windows Ink

  • Windows build 23595 .1000 ni_prerelease is extending the ability to use digital handwriting (inking) in some edit boxes for Windows Ink to the following languages and locales: Chinese Simplified (People’s Republic of China), English (Australia), English (Canada), English (India), English (United Kingdom), French (Canada), French (France), German (Germany), Italian (Italy), Japanese (Japan), Korean (Korea), Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish (Mexico), and Spanish (Spain). The rollout also comprises better recognition technology, gestures to select, join, delete, and split words, furthermore, a gesture to insert a new line.

Nearby Sharing

  • Subsequent to receiving this update you will be able to discover and share files with your Android devices in discoverable mode using Bluetooth under Nearby Share in the Windows share window.

Task Manager

  • The update improved process grouping in the Task Manager.

Settings

  • Windows build 23595 .1000 ni_prerelease starts the rollout of account-related notifications for Microsoft accounts on the Settings homepage. This will display Microsoft account connected to Windows, account backs up of entire data and helps you manage your subscriptions. You can also add supplementary security steps to keep you from being locked out of your account. This enhancement shows notifications across the Start menu and Settings. You can handle Settings notifications via Settings => Privacy & security => General.
  • Xbox Game Bar is changed to Game Bar located under Settings => Gaming.
  • The deliverance is beginning to update references to Azure Active Directory aka AAD to Microsoft Entra ID in Settings.
  • [ADDED] System Components have moved to their own page under Settings => System => System Components which were listed in Settings => Apps => Installed Apps page.

Bug Fixes

Desktops

  • The experts have fixed an issue that was causing custom wallpapers to shift when switching desktops.

Known issues

Start menu

  • [NEW] They are working on a fix for the recommended section to be blank for some Insiders.

Copilot in Windows

  • After refreshing or on opening the Copilot through voice access, you’ll be required to use Show grid commands in order to click in the Ask me anything box for the first time.
